Setting Pixel Prices
Choosing the right price per pixel is important for your fundraising success. Consider these factors:
| Grid Size |
Pixels |
Suggested Price Per Pixel |
Potential Total |
| 25×25 (625 blocks) |
62,500 |
$1 - $10 |
$62,500 - $625,000 |
| 50×50 (2,500 blocks) |
250,000 |
$0.50 - $5 |
$125,000 - $1,250,000 |
| 75×75 (5,625 blocks) |
562,500 |
$0.25 - $3 |
$140,625 - $1,687,500 |
| 100×100 (10,000 blocks) |
1,000,000 |
$0.25 - $2 |
$250,000 - $2,000,000 |
💡 Tip: Lower prices encourage more participation and create a more diverse, collaborative grid. Higher prices work better for causes with dedicated supporters who want to make larger contributions.
Sharing Your Grid
Once your grid is created, it's time to spread the word! Here are effective ways to share:
- Direct Link: Each grid has a unique URL (e.g.,
pixelfunder.com/grid/your-grid-name) you can share anywhere
- Social Media: Share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn with a compelling message about your cause
- Email: Send personalized emails to friends, family, and supporters with your grid link
- QR Code: Create a QR code linking to your grid for flyers, posters, or events
- Embed: Contact us if you'd like to embed your grid on your own website
💡 Tip: Post regular updates about your progress! When supporters see pixels filling up, it creates momentum and encourages others to join in.

💰 Buying Pixels
How to Buy Pixels
Supporting a cause by buying pixels is simple:
- Find a grid you want to support by browsing or using a direct link
- Click on the grid to view it in full size
- Select your pixels:
- Click on any available (light gray) pixel to set your starting point
- On desktop: move your mouse to preview your selection area (shown with a pink shadow)
- On mobile: simply tap on your second corner - the rectangle will be calculated automatically
- Already-purchased pixels within your selection are automatically skipped
- Click again to finalize your selection (shown with a pulsing red border)
- To select a single block, click the same pixel twice
- Review your selection showing the number of pixels and total cost
- Click "Buy Selected Pixels"
- Complete payment through our secure Stripe checkout
- After payment, you can immediately design your pixel space!
💡 Tip: The selection system automatically creates L-shapes, U-shapes, and other irregular selections by skipping over pixels that are already purchased. You only pay for available pixels!
Designing Your Pixel Space
After purchasing pixels, you can customize them with your own design. Your undesigned pixels appear in yellow with a pulsing orange border to draw your attention. Click on any of them to open the design editor.
Understanding the Design Canvas:
- When you click your pixels, all contiguous blocks you own (including diagonally touching) are grouped together for editing
- The design canvas shows your entire bounding box – blocks you don't own appear as grey areas that you cannot draw on
- This allows you to create designs around other people's pixels or expand existing designs when you purchase adjacent blocks
Design Options:
1. Draw Tab
- Use the color picker and brush tools to draw directly on your pixels
- Adjust brush size for detailed work or quick fills
- Use "Fill All" to fill all your blocks with the selected color (grey areas stay untouched)
- Use "Clear" to reset your blocks to white
- Undo/Redo buttons help you fix mistakes
2. Upload Tab
- Upload JPG, PNG, or GIF images (max 5MB)
- Images are automatically scaled to fit your pixel area
- The preview shows exactly how your image will appear, with grey areas indicating pixels you don't own
- For best results, use images with a similar aspect ratio to your selection
3. Link Tab
- Add a clickable URL and optional title to your pixels
- Links can be added with or without a visual design
- Visitors see a tooltip with your link when hovering over your pixels
Expanding Existing Designs:
- When you purchase pixels adjacent to ones you already own, they become part of the same design group
- Clicking any pixel in the group opens the full design canvas
- Your existing design loads in its original position – new pixels start white
- You can then extend your design into the new area
⚠️ Important: All designs are reviewed to ensure they follow our
Community Guidelines. Inappropriate content will be removed.
Adding Links to Pixels
Make your pixels interactive by adding a clickable link:
- In the design modal, find the "Link URL" field
- Enter the full URL (including https://) you want to link to
- Optionally add a "Link Title" that describes the destination
- Save your design
When visitors click on your pixels, they'll see your link and can choose to visit it.
💡 Tip: Links are a great way to promote your business, website, social media, or another cause while supporting the fundraiser!
⚠️ Note: Links must comply with our guidelines. We don't allow links to malicious sites, adult content, illegal activities, or spam. Violations may result in link removal or account suspension.
Payment Methods
PixelFunder accepts all major payment methods through our secure payment processor, Stripe:
- Credit Cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover
- Debit Cards: Any card with a Visa or Mastercard logo
- Digital Wallets: Apple Pay, Google Pay (where available)
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
💡 Security: Look for the lock icon in your browser and "stripe.com" in the payment form URL to confirm you're on a secure payment page.

📊 Grid Management
Tracking Your Grid's Progress
Stay informed about your fundraising progress:
- Grid Page Stats: View real-time statistics on your grid page including:
- Total amount raised
- Number of pixels sold
- Progress toward your goal (if set)
- Percentage of grid filled
- Visual Progress: Watch your grid fill up with colorful designs as supporters purchase pixels
- Email Notifications: Receive email alerts when someone purchases pixels on your grid
💡 Tip: Share progress updates with your supporters! Seeing a grid fill up creates excitement and encourages more people to participate.
Receiving Funds
Funds from pixel purchases go directly to your connected Stripe account:
- Stripe Connect: During grid creation, you'll connect (or create) a Stripe account
- Direct Deposits: When someone buys pixels, funds (minus fees) are deposited to your Stripe balance
- Payout Schedule: Stripe typically transfers funds to your bank account within 2-7 business days
- Payout Settings: You can adjust your payout schedule in your Stripe dashboard
⚠️ Important: Make sure to complete Stripe's verification requirements to avoid payout delays. This may include providing identification and business information.
Editing Your Grid
You can update certain aspects of your grid after creation:
What you CAN edit:
- Grid name and description
- Fundraising goal amount
- Category
What you CANNOT edit:
- Grid size (number of pixels)
- Price per pixel (after any pixels are sold)
- Grid slug/URL
To edit your grid:
- Go to your grid page while logged in
- Click the "Edit Grid" button in the sidebar
- Make your changes and click "Save Changes"
⚠️ Note: Editing your grid will send it back for moderation review. Your grid remains visible during this process, but changes won't appear until approved.
Understanding Fees
PixelFunder uses a transparent fee structure:
| Fee Type |
Amount |
Description |
| Platform Fee |
5% |
Supports PixelFunder operations, hosting, and development |
| Stripe Processing |
2.9% + $0.30 |
Credit card processing fee charged by Stripe |
Example: For a $10 pixel purchase:
- Stripe fee: $0.59 (2.9% × $10 + $0.30)
- Platform fee: $0.50 (5% × $10)
- You receive: $8.91
💡 Note: All fees are clearly displayed to buyers before purchase, so there are no surprises. Higher pixel prices result in a better percentage going to your cause due to Stripe's fixed $0.30 fee.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is PixelFunder?
+
PixelFunder is a creative fundraising platform where you create a pixel grid and supporters buy individual pixels to help fund your cause. Each pixel can be customized with designs and links, creating a collaborative visual mosaic while raising money.
How do I create a fundraising grid?
+
1. Create a free account
2. Click "Start a Grid"
3. Fill in your grid details (name, description, goal)
4. Set your pixel price
5. Connect your Stripe account to receive payments
6. Share your grid with supporters!
Your grid goes live immediately – no waiting for approval! Our team reviews grids in the background to ensure they follow our guidelines. See our detailed
grid creation guide for more information.
How much does PixelFunder cost?
+
Creating a grid is free. We charge a 5% platform fee on successful pixel purchases. Payment processing fees (via Stripe, typically 2.9% + $0.30) also apply. All fees are clearly shown before purchase. See our
fee breakdown for examples.
How do I receive the money raised?
+
Funds are transferred directly to your bank account via Stripe Connect. You'll set this up when creating your grid. Transfers typically occur within 2-7 business days after a pixel purchase. Learn more about
receiving funds.
Can I get a refund on pixel purchases?
+
Due to the fundraising nature of the platform, purchases are generally final. Refunds are only provided in cases of fraud, technical errors, or if a grid is removed for policy violations. See our
Refund Policy for details.
What can I design on my pixels?
+
You have several options: draw directly using color tools and brushes, upload images (JPG, PNG, GIF), use solid color fills, or leave them as your default "owned" color (yellow). You can also add clickable links with optional titles. When your pixels are adjacent to others' pixels, the design canvas shows grey areas where you can't draw – your design only appears on your owned blocks. All content must comply with our
Community Guidelines.
Can I expand my design by buying more pixels?
+
Yes! When you purchase pixels adjacent to ones you already own (including diagonally), they automatically become part of the same design group. Clicking any pixel in the group opens the full design canvas with your existing design in place. New pixels start white, ready for you to extend your design. This is great for growing your presence on a grid over time!
How do I select pixels to purchase?
+
Tap or click on any available pixel to set your starting point. On desktop, move your mouse to see a preview (shown in pink). Tap or click on a second pixel to finalize your selection as a rectangle between the two points. The system automatically skips over already-purchased pixels, so you can create L-shapes and other irregular selections. To select just one block, tap the same pixel twice. See our
buying guide for details.
Can I edit my grid after creating it?
+
You can edit your grid name, description, and goal amount. However, you cannot change the grid size or pixel price after pixels have been purchased. See
editing your grid for full details.
What if someone reports my grid or design?
+
Our moderation team reviews all reports within 24 hours. If your content violates our guidelines, it may be hidden or removed. Serious or repeated violations can result in account suspension. If you believe a report is incorrect, contact our support team.
Is my payment information secure?
+
Yes. All payments are processed through Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor used by millions of businesses. We never see or store your full credit card information. Your data is encrypted and secure. Learn more about
account security.
Do I have to wait for my grid to be approved?
+
No! Your grid goes live immediately after creation, so you can start sharing it right away. Our moderation team reviews all grids in the background to ensure they meet our
Community Guidelines. If any issues are found, we'll contact you directly.
Can I have multiple grids?
+
Yes! You can create multiple fundraising grids for different causes or campaigns. Each grid has its own unique URL and tracks progress independently.
What happens when my grid is 100% filled?
+
Congratulations! When all pixels are purchased, your grid becomes a completed mosaic. It remains viewable and all links stay active. You can no longer edit a completed grid, but it serves as a permanent record of your successful fundraiser.
